When news of a remake of the hit ‘90s fantasy drama series “Charmed,” avid fans and those who grew up watching the three girls fight evil guys were more than delighted. It was a much-celebrated show, which is quite an understatement after it launched a cult following that lasted till today – lo and behold, despite the last episode airing on May 21, 2006, or about 12 years ago, many people still clamor for a remake of the successful project. Finally, we saw a reboot last year, but which was quite different yet feels familiar: it starred different actors but used the same beloved props from the original show.
For eight glorious seasons, we saw the ups and downs of Prue Halliwell (Shannen Doherty), Piper Halliwell (Holly Marie Combs), Phoebe Halliwell (Alyssa Milano), and Paige Matthews (Rose McGowan), among many others. “Charmed” took us for a rollercoaster ride and even rewatching it now to relive the moment would really make us appreciate it more. As mentioned, true blue fans of the original series would know this by heart, but there are just things that even the biggest supporter of the show wouldn’t know, here they are:
Book of Shadows for Auction and as an Art
Fans would know what the Book of Shadows is: it contains the spells of the witches, information about deities and demons, as well as magical teachings. Ever wondered where the bespoke material is now? It is currently with “Charmed” showrunner Brad Kern, who was dismissed in October over malicious allegations. Combs, in a social media post, revealed that she and the executive producer agreed to share on the book, but the actress said that didn’t happen.

Combs wanted Kern to give the book to an auction and eventually to a woman’s charity and Milano echoed the same sentiment, pointing out that if he didn’t return the book to her co-star, then he should just give it to auction and donate the proceeds to the MeToo Foundation. Speaking of the Book of Shadows, Milano loved it so much that she commissioned an artist to paint the illustrations in the book in her house, which makes sense because it was very telling of the vast influence the show had on her and other cast members.
Close Friends?
Rumors have it that despite being sisters in the show who help one another every time they fight antagonists, Milano and Doherty’s situation was actually the opposite in real life. This wasn’t a kept secret – most fans would know that they didn’t get along off cam. However, this wasn’t always the case between the two actresses: they were actually close during the early days, so much so that in Milano and Cinjun Tate’s wedding, Doherty was a bridesmaid. Now that more than a decade has passed, it seemed that the two are friends again as they publicly dismissed their long-time feud.
Prue’s Death Affected Co-stars
Prue left the so-called “Power of Three” in the last episode of season 3 when Shax (Michael Bailey Smith), an assassin of The Source, killed her – of course, that meant that the show had to chop off Doherty from the show. As per reports, it was the actress’ decision to leave the show, although speculations contested that she and co-star Milano had a fight. It’s unclear whether these were true, but what was sure was that the fans were shocked and sad that one of the Halliwell sisters had to go.

Perhaps the saddest among the cast was Combs, who was pretty close to Doherty in real life. If there’s one thing good that was brought about by the character’s death is that it became easy for Combs to draw her emotions to the thought of a departing friend. It is understandable though, it’s like not seeing each other on the set or messing around during break time – after all, they were friends even before “Charmed” happened.

As much as fans of “Charmed” were thrilled about The CW reboot that started in October last year, the same can’t be said of the original cast members who were very vocal when it comes to their disappointment over the remake. Combs in a tweet expressed her anger for not even tapping her, her costars, and the original team to have a hand on the story; Milano said it would have been nice if they were involved in some way; and Doherty was offended about the original announcement and explained she wanted the original show to be respected.
