Her mother Tina Knowles-Lawson recently appeared on a podcast called In My Head with Heather Thomson, where she revealed her close-knit relationship with her daughter.
The philanthropist also revealed another interesting fact that most fans were surprised to hear. She said that Tina is simply a moniker she uses for her career because it’s an easier name to remember. In reality, she was born as Celestine Beyoncé, a name that was quite bizarre and uncommon back in the day.
Knowles-Lawson said that she was embarrassed by her name when she was younger and wished she went by a more popular moniker such as Lina or Tina, both of which were considered cool names in the 80s.
Knowles-Lawson revealed that Beyoncé was not originally her family name because her brother’s last name is spelled as ‘Beyince’ but the doctor made a mistake in spelling her name on the birth certificate, given birth to the popular name that we know today.

Knowles-Lawson said that her mother was unable to get her name changed on the birth certificate, and every time she would complain about it, her mother would tell her to be thankful that at least she had a birth certificate, which was quite uncommon for black people back in the day.
