Have you ever imagined what makes pop-star documentaries a hit? It’s the real-life struggle such celebs overcome to reach where they are.
People love their idols, and more than that, they love their struggle stories. When they see their role models’ hard work to gain their current position, they get inspired and strive to do the same. Regardless of whether they’re able to achieve the same status, they at least succeed in making the movie a record-breaking hit!
Speaking of pop-star documentaries, a show that will soon be a part of the league is Kanye West’s yet-untitled series. Recently it made headlines for cracking a big contract with Netflix. Here’s all you need to know.
The unnamed story of Kanye West
Earlier this month, Netflix bought the rights for Kanye West’s untitled documentary, which covers everything from his musical career to his failed 2020 presidential bid and glimpses of his mother’s death, for upwards of $30 million. The series is said to feature never-before-seen videos and footage of West captured by Clarence Simmons (Coodie) and Chike Ozah over a 21-year-old span. FYI, Coodie and Chike are also the directors of West’s songs, Jesus Walks – Version 3 and Through the Wire, and have dedicated the golden years of their career to make this series on West.
According to Billboard reports, the show is supposed to be released this year, but whether it will feature West’s pending divorce from Kim Kardashian or not is undisclosed. Not to forget that West’s soon-to-be ex-mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, had previously declared that Kardashian and West’s separation would be a part of the final season of Keeping Up With the Kardashians.
A star is born
West began his production career in the mid-1990s and rose to fame with his contributions to Jay-Z’s 2001 album The Blueprint. He worked with some of the prominent musicians in history but never felt satisfied as a producer. In 2003, he released The College Dropout, his first album as a rapper, and received a lot of praise. After that, he delivered two other albums – Late Registration and Graduation – which blew away people’s minds.
In 2008 he tried something new with his albums 808s and Heartbreak, which he made using tunes created by Roland TR-808 drum machine. Even though fans didn’t shower these albums with much love, other musicians got inspired to try something risky. West’s most critically acclaimed work was his fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, after which most of his work became faith-centric.
Being a superstar, West could never stay away from controversy. He first grabbed attention for accusing former US president George W Bush of neglecting the Black people during Hurricane Katrina. Then he created a scene at the 2009 MTV video music awards by interrupting Taylor Swift’s speech midway. In 2016, he declared himself a Trump supporter, but by 2020, he became anti-Trump. Throughout 2020, West was on and off the news for his failed marriage with Kim Kardashian, with whom he shares four kids.
West wishes to have a creative partner
Even though West isn’t officially divorced, he has plans in mind for his upcoming partner. A source close to the 43-year-old rapper revealed that West wants his next partner to be an artist so that the couple can converse on common topics.
