Have you ever seen a celebrity wear a dress that looks oddly ugly yet beautiful at the same time? You try to look away but, you just can’t. Chances are you are looking at someone attending the Met Gala. This high-profile event is all about unleashing your inner artist and going berserk with unusual designs, and making the crowd go wow with your fashion sense!
What is the Met Gala?
The Met Gala is not just any A-lister event. It is an annual affair held to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, and as the name suggests, it requires the celebrities to go all out when it comes to appearance. While you can’t just wear anything to the Met Gala, you need to be aware of the theme that has been decided for the event. For 2020, the Met Gala organizers decided the theme to be ‘About Time: Fashion and Duration’. Sounds like a best-seller book, right? Yeah, that’s what the theme for this year is based on. Many Metizens have been critical of the clothing and theme set for the event but, it’s not like there’s much anyone can do about it.
The Met Gala and Its Themes
Though pandemic canceled the 2020 Met Gala, organizers have decided that the show must go on. Entertainment Weekly has disclosed that the annual Metropolitan Museum of Art fundraiser will be held in the September of 2021, breaking the usual tradition of the first Monday of May. This Met Gala is going to follow the theme of ‘In America: A Lexicon of Fashion’. Many found this theme to be straightforward and reasonable compared to the 2019 theme, ‘ Notes on Camp’. Andrew Bolton, who serves as the Wendy Yu Curator in charge of The Costume Institute, stated that the theme was selected after careful consideration.
Met Gala; The Sequel
The Met Gala of this year will be unique as it will be based on two parts – meaning there will be two Met Gala, technically speaking. The first one is set to take place on the 13 of September of this year, and the second event will happen on May 2 of 2022. The follow-up event will feature a different theme but, of the same nature, ‘ In America: An Anthology of Fashion’. The new date for the 2021 Met Gala will happen when the New York Fashion Week will end and it will also work as a celebration of the costume institute’s 75th Anniversary.
