People often go to McDonald’s when they simply want something tasty to eat, of course, with the knowledge that what they’re going to have is not the healthiest food out there. The fast-food chain, however, has tons of secrets, pretty much like other restaurants, a former employee shared.
Dessy Joseph, a 26-year-old former cashier at McDonald’s from 2013 to 2014, has been gaining immense popularity in TikTok because of the secrets she shared about the fast-food. Here are some of the biggest takeaways from her revelations:
Custom Orders Are Welcome
Most often than not, customers tend to order what they only see on the menu. But, did you know that you can ask for creative customizations?
Employees are happy to indulge in customers’ request and Dessy has seen some people ordering outrageous things. Some people ask for cherry syrup with their Sprite while others request for a different sauce in their meals.
Tea in a Bucket
One of the craziest secrets that Dessy revealed was that tea is brewed in a mop bucket, which is stored beside the one actually used to clean the floor. The controversial bit came from her experience so there’s no way anyone can check the veracity of this claim.
According to Dessy, she was asked by her supervisor to get the mop during her training. Much to her surprise, she was told she brought the wrong bucket that contained the iced tea, which was only labeled with masking tape.
Skip the Caramel Sundae
McDonald’s may be known for its McFlurry but some people prefer ordering caramel sundae, too. However, customers may want to avoid ordering anything with caramel – except the Caramel Frappe since the caramel used is in another container — because it is stored in moldy dispensers, Dessy said.
Saving Up On Orders
There are ways on how you can cut costs without compromising your preferences. Dessy advised that upon ordering, request to switch an element with what you like instead of saying you want this or that ‘added’ into your meal.
Additions usually rack up the cost whereas if you ask for a substitution, you’re less likely to be charged extra.
Forgotten Orders
As customers, it is quite irritating to wait for your food when you noticed that everyone who ordered after you already got theirs. Apparently, there’s a straightforward reason your meals haven’t arrived yet – they are forgotten.
Dessy explained that there’s a computer system that monitors the moment the order is made from the time it is prepared and completed. In order to avoid being scolded for slow service, employees usually mark orders ‘completed’ even when the meal has yet to be made, which is why some orders get lost.
