The famous Caribbean music style belted out by Harry Belafonte in the ’50s earned him the title “King of Calypso.” The singer-songwriter, actor, and activist broke out with his album, “Calypso,” which topped the charts and became the first single artist’s million-selling LP. He was never sluggish in acting, as he also did amazingly well in that genre.
Some of his feature films include “Bright Road,” “The Angel Levine,” and “Motherland.” Though frail, Belafonte appeared in Spike Lee’s “BlacKkKlansman” as an elderly civil rights pioneer in 2018. Now retired, Harry lives in New York City with his photographer wife, Pamela Frank.
