If you’ve ever worked in a call center, you know the monotony of dealing with endless calls. Kristina Collins came up with a creative, if flawed, solution to handle the constant ringing: she would answer the phone and immediately mute herself. This left callers either hanging up or repeatedly asking, “Hello?” while she enjoyed the peace and quiet.

However, her plan backfired when her supervisor decided to monitor a few of her calls. The silence from Kristina’s end and the repeated “Hello?” from frustrated callers made it clear she wasn’t providing great customer service. Unsurprisingly, this led to her dismissal.
